Environmental Benefits

AN 'ABOVE AND BEYOND' INITIATIVE

Blyth Battery is supporting a local environmental initiative under the leadership of Ian Roberts and with participation from local community members living in the town of Blyth.

This initiative will see the planting of up to 1,000 native plants on the northern edge of our project site. Ian and the Blyth community have extensive experience in delivering such projects, having planted approximately 100,000 plants around the town over the last 22 years.

During early stages of construction, Neoen’s project team engaged with the local community to identify and seek ideas for delivering an environmental initiative that was outside any legislative or approval requirements on our project and that would hold significance to them living closest to our site. We are thankful to their input as well as support in implementing this initiative.

Over the last 12-18 months, Ian and local conservationists have successfully propagated the saplings. The next step is to plant them! This will occur on the area that was previously used as the construction compound for Blyth Battery.

We have engaged with a local supplier, Irrigear Clare, to ensure that the area will be irrigated using water captured from our project site, ensuring that the saplings are looked after with care and grow properly!

On another Neoen project located close to Blyth, the Goyder Renewables Zone, the project team gifted 1,000 hectares of the iconic Worlds End Gorge to the Government of South Australia, paving the way for a new national park in the state’s Mid North region.
